Renault Scenic Spares

Your Renault
The part you need

The more you write, the faster we come back. Say where on the car it sits, and copy across any numbers stamped on the old part. At least 20 characters, please.

Picking “whichever” usually gets you a wider set of options back.

How we reach you

The Scenic II was sold here from 2004 to 2009, and CAR magazine’s own retrospective is blunt about what dented it locally: long waits for parts, thin service facilities and too few technicians who knew the car. Scenic IIIs followed and a handful are still running. This is the smallest Renault parc we cover and we will not pretend otherwise — but the reason people go looking has not changed in twenty years.

Local engines: 1.6 (Scenic II Authentique), 2.0 (Scenic II Dynamique and Privilege), 1.6 (Scenic III Expression) and 1.9 dCi (Scenic II).

What a parts desk needs to hear about your Scenic

What shifts across the years

The Scenic has arrived in South Africa as the Scenic II sold here from 2004 to 2009 and the Scenic III that followed it, and that on its own changes the answer.

This is the thinnest Renault parc on the site and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. CAR magazine’s own look back at the Scenic II in South Africa put the model’s local reputation down to poor aftersales — long waits for parts, inadequate service facilities and too few technicians who knew the car. Two decades on that has not improved, and second-hand is often the only route to a Scenic part at all.

What we can pin down is the range

What we can pin down is the range. The Scenic II was sold here from 2004 to 2009, and South African listings from that period run to a 1.6 Authentique, a 2.0 in Dynamique and Privilege form, and the 1.9 dCi as a Navigator and a Prestige — the diesel being the derivative CAR singled out as the sweet spot of the range. The Scenic III that followed appears here as a 1.6 Expression.

We have not found a South African source that fixes the date the Scenic III stopped being sold locally, so we do not quote one; what we can say is that the cars on the road here are from the early 2010s and earlier. Given how few there are, the honest process is the reverse of the usual one: tell us the generation and the derivative first, and we will tell you straight whether the part is findable before either of us spends time on it.

One more honest note

One more honest note, because it saves people a wasted search. On several Renaults we can point at a related car and say “try that one” — the Sandero has the NP200, the Koleos has the X-Trail, the Captur has the Clio. We have not found a South African source putting the Scenic on a platform shared with anything else sold here, so we are not going to invent a sibling for it.

For this model the search is Scenic-specific, and that is a large part of why it is a harder car to keep on the road than its size and its age suggest.

What we check on spares

  • •The generation code — the Scenic parts list splits on it
  • •Which engine you have; this one was sold with 1.6 (Scenic II Authentique), 2.0 (Scenic II Dynamique and Privilege), 1.6 (Scenic III Expression) and 1.9 dCi (Scenic II)
  • •The engine code off the plate, or the VIN if you cannot find it
  • •Where the car sits either side of its facelift

Locally, the Scenic is mostly an ageing family MPV being kept going well past the point where anyone still stocks for it. These are cars people keep because they suit the family rather than because they are worth money, so the enquiries are practical and specific, and a straight answer about availability is usually more useful than a long conversation about alternatives. That is the wear pattern we source against, and it is why we ask what the car does rather than only what it is.

If you are not certain which Scenic you have, send the VIN off your licence disc and we will work it out.
