Our story
A parts counter with a long memory
Renault Spares SA is a parts desk. There is no basket on this site and no checkout button, because a price for a Renault part depends on which Renault you actually have and what can be got hold of on the day.
You tell us the part and the car. A person reads it, works out what can be sourced, and comes back to you with a price and what condition it is in. That is the whole service.
The counter itself belongs to SparesBoyz, in Briardene. The two men behind it, John Hunt and Paul Shannon, have been in business together since 1988; their first parts company opened in 1990 and did nothing but Mercedes-Benz. Renault arrived a good deal later, in 2010, when the group added a European division called Euroboyz. So the Renault desk is younger than the business around it, and that is the honest way to put it.
SparesBoyz describe themselves as RMI-approved, and say their supplier database runs to more than 12,000 contacts worldwide. Those are their figures rather than ours and we have left them in their voice on purpose. What we can tell you from our side is that the reach is why an awkward Renault part is usually findable.

How it got here
Thirty-odd years, and one of them ours
Every date below comes from SparesBoyz's own account of the group. We have not rounded any of them up, and we have not claimed the older ones as this desk's.
1988
John Hunt and Paul Shannon go into business together. Everything below grows out of that partnership.
1990
Their first parts company, Merbeda, opens. Mercedes-Benz only.
1991
Volksie follows for Volkswagen, and Beemer / B + O for BMW a year after that.
2004
The BOYZ name is used for the first time, with SparesBoyz — Mercedes, BMW, Honda and Tata.
2010
Euroboyz is added to the group, selling parts for Renault, Peugeot, Citroën and Volvo. This is where Renault comes in.
2014–15
Renault is added to the SparesBoyz range itself, alongside Citroën, Daihatsu, Tata and Peugeot.
2015–16
Mercedes is added in the August, the rest early the following year, and SparesBoyz Cape Town launches.
Today
The Renault desk runs from the Briardene counter, and this site is how you reach it.
One supplier, not a bidding panel
Behind this site is a single independent parts supplier — SparesBoyz, at 89 Chris Hani Road, Briardene, Durban North. When you send an enquiry it goes to that counter and nowhere else.
It is worth being clear about what that means, because plenty of parts sites work the other way. We are not a marketplace and we do not auction your details to a panel of sellers who then all phone you. One enquiry, one supplier, one call back.
We are also not a Renault dealership and we hold no franchise, agency or endorsement from Renault. We are independent, and we use the Renault name here only to say which cars the parts are meant to fit.
Used parts, specifically
Where a second-hand part actually comes from
This is the part of the trade people are most wary of, so here is the process in SparesBoyz's own terms. A used part starts as a written-off car — very often one with cosmetic or single-side damage and a perfectly sound everything-else.
The car comes in
A written-off or accident-damaged vehicle arrives in the yard. Most of it was never in the accident.
It is stripped
The car is taken down to its shell, and every part is removed carefully rather than cut out.
Cleaned and tested
Parts are cleaned and tested before they go up as stock. A part that fails is not stock.
Re-packaged
What passes is re-packaged and shelved as a good used part, ready to be quoted against your car.
The appeal is straightforward: a used part is the same original component a franchised dealer would quote you for, at a fraction of the money. New and aftermarket are both on the table too — tell us which you would prefer when you enquire, or tell us you are easy either way, because that usually gets you more options back.
Renault, and only Renault
This site handles one marque. The reason is not sentiment — it is that a model name on its own is not enough to order a part. The same name can cover very different cars depending on the year and the derivative, and two cars that look identical on the driveway can take different components.
So we ask for the year and the derivative, and for the VIN or any numbers stamped on the old part if you have them. That is the difference between a quote you can act on and a box that turns up not fitting. There is more on that in how we work.
New, used and aftermarket are all fair game. If you would rather have one than the other, say so when you enquire; if you are easy either way, say that instead, because it usually gets you more options back.
Find us
Where we are, and where we send
The counter is in Briardene, Durban North, and you are welcome to collect from there during trading hours. If you are somewhere else in the country, put your town or suburb on the enquiry — carriage is worked out per enquiry and quoted along with the part, so you are looking at one number rather than a surprise at the end.
We take enquiries from right across South Africa. The areas we cover pages are there for that, and the parts we list give you a sense of what to ask for. SparesBoyz's own position is that they arrange overnight delivery through South Africa and into Africa; what we will commit to is the figure on the quote we send you.

A few things we do not do
- We do not publish prices on this site. Condition and availability move about too much for a fixed number on a web page to mean anything. The price you get is the one on your quote.
- We do not auto-quote. Nothing here generates a figure by itself. Someone at the desk looks at your enquiry before you hear back.
- We do not sell your details on to marketers. Your enquiry goes to the parts desk so it can be answered. What we collect and exactly who it reaches is set out in the privacy policy.
